Pontianak State Polytechnic held a flag ceremony to commemorate the National Education Day 2022. The ceremony took place on the front yard of Polnep’s main building and attended by all employees and students. Acting as the supervisor of the ceremony, Director of Polnep Dr. H. Muhammad Toasin Asha. On the occasion, Director Toasin Asha read the speech of the Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology to commemorate the special day in Indonesian education.

“During the past two years, we have faced many challenges we never thought we would have before. Even worse, we thought we never could go through it all. Being here today is proof that we are much tougher than all challenges. We are not only able to get through (the COVID-19 pandemic) but are also capable of encouraging national recovery,” Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Minister Nadiem Anwar Makarim remarked in his speech.

During the pandemic, the ministry provided the Freedom in Learning curriculum to facilitate teachers and students in conducting learning activities. The attempt has been able to reduce the impact of learning loss. Currently, the curriculum is being implemented in over 140 thousand educational units throughout Indonesia. "It means that hundreds of thousands of Indonesian children will learn in a much more fun and liberating way," Makarim emphasized.

“Our children also no longer need to worry about final examination since the National Assessment Test that we currently use is not aimed at punishing teachers or students, but it is more like a reflection material so that teachers continue to be motivated to learn. So that school principals are motivated to improve the quality of their schools to be more inclusive and free from the threat of the three major sins of education,” continued Minister Makarim.

The same spirit is also displayed by the cultural actors, who have begun to recover and work more freely, he noted. "Thanks to our persistence in creating the cultural endowment fund and the first cultural channel in Indonesia. Currently, there is no longer any space and support limitation on expression, so we can keep advancing our culture. This year, we have proved that we are no longer just followers, but we have become the leader of the world recovery movement" he added.

At the end of his speech, the Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology urged Merdeka Belajar activists throughout Indonesia to continue to take command, lead the recovery process together and keep moving for Merdeka Belajar.

“We need to understand that COVID-19 is not the only challenge for us. There are still challenges that we will and must surmount in the future. Let us go through all the challenges with innovations and solutions. Let us create a glorious history that is recognized by the whole world.” he said.

Following the speech of Minister Nadiem Makarim, Director of Polnep told the attendees of flag ceremony that long holiday of Eid Al-Fitr had ended and reminded all stakeholders to show good performance as civil servants. “Let’s stay motivated to perform excellent public service to our customers,” he concluded.

An event of Halal Bi Halal (Indonesian Eid Gathering) was conducted following the flag ceremony of National Education Day and attended by management, lecturers, and employees of Pontianak State Polytechnic.
