Pontianak State Polytechnic (Polnep) held an Open Senate Meeting to inaugurate two new professors which took place at Polnep’s Integrated Building on Thursday (06/02). The opening and inauguration was conducted by the Chairman of Polnep’s Senate Prof. Dr. Ir. Hj. Nurmala, M.M. who herself is a Professor in the Field of Management Science.

The two newly-inaugurated professors are Prof. Dr. Narsih, S.TP., M.P. of Agricultural Technology Department as a Professor in the Field of Agricultural Industry Technology and Prof. Dr. Nurmala Elmin Simbolon, S.S., M.Ed. of Marine Science and Fishery Department as a Professor in the Field of English Language Teaching. They might come obviously from two different fields of sciences but they have given significant contribution to academic world.

Prof. Dr. Narsih, S.TP., M.P. delivered her scientific oration entitled “Aloe Vera Skin Based Functional Food in Dry Noodle Measurement”. She explained her research results that aloe vera skin has special properties to be developed into functional food product. “Aloe vera skin is a special nutritious raw material which can be used in making functional food products. Since it contains bioactive and nutritious content, it is potential to be utilized to produce various food products,” said Prof. Dr. Narsih.

Meanwhile, Prof. Dr. Nurmala Elmin Simbolon, S.S., M.Ed. also had the opportunity to give her oration entitled “Dual-Focus Approach: Adaptive Approach in Increasing English Competence of Vocational University’s Graduate towards the 2045 Golden Indonesia”. The Dual-Focus Approach has a good implication of collaboration for Indonesian people regarding communication in English. “The communication skill in English is a need to prepare golden generation of 2045, in terms of determining strategy and policy in English teaching in order to achieve excellent human resources,” said Prof. Dr. Nurmala.

As a mark of honor, the Director of Polnep Dr. Ir. H. Widodo PS, S.T., M.T., MCE, accompanied by the Chairman of the Senate, presented the two inaugurated professors with the sign of the honorary professor. With the increase in the number of professors, Polnep successfully has four professors who will become intellectual resources by willingly contributing to the development of science. Previously, Polnep had two professors, Prof. Dr. Ardi Marwan, S.Pd., M.Ed. is a professor who successfully brought the name of the institution as an education and culture attaché in Berlin, Germany. Meanwhile, Prof. Dr Ir. Hj Nurmala, M.M. has been appointed as the Vice Chairperson for Education of the ICMI West Kalimantan Regional Office.

Director Widodo PS felt very proud of the Professor's achievement and hoped that all professors can bring the good name of Polnep. “It is not easy to have the highest position in academics, Polnep highly hopes that the professors can make this institution proud and give all their strength and efforts in terms of education and other developments,” said Widodo.

As the closing, a prayer recitation was conducted and followed by entertainment session performed by UKM Seni Polnep.
