It is truly an honor for Pontianak State Polytechnic (Polnep) to be chosen as the host for Indonesian Bridge and Building Competition (KJI and KBGI) by National Achievement Center (Puspresnas) Ministry of Education and Culture, Research, and Culture. “We have done our best to prepare this event. I would like to congratulate all members of the committee for their hard work to make this event possible,” said Director of Polnep H. Muhammad Toasin Asha starting his welcoming speech. He went on saying that this was the first time ever for the national competition to be conducted on the land of Kalimantan. “Even though we are still in the midst of Covid-19 pandemic, we are still able to innovate and be creative,” he added.

Moreover, Director Asha explained how Polnep had prepared the best it could for the event. Starting from the designing stage up to the finishing one. “Thanks to the input from the examiners, Polnep has proven that we are able to provide some commodities by ourselves which we usually order from abroad. Next, Insha Allah (in God s will), we would like to go on patent process of our earth quake test device. It is surely a sign that Indonesian youth is capable to do it if we just believe in them,” he said. Mr. Asha also expressed his hope that the Indonesian Bridge and Building Competition could run well as planned and brought many benefits to Indonesian people and nation.

On the same occasion, the Head of Committee Indah Rosanti in her report said that the theme of current Indonesian Bridge and Building Competition was “Making Achievement Amidst the Pandemic”. The participants of the competition are those who have passed proposal screening. There are 63 teams competing in Arch Bridge category and 89 teams competing in Steel Frame Bridge category. Meanwhile, there are 97 teams competing in building category comprising of 53 teams in cold formed steel model category and 44 teams in wooden multi-storey building category. “In total, we have received proposals from 68 universities across Indonesia,” Indah Rosanti said to end her report.

The 16^th Indonesian Bridge Competition and the 12^th Indonesian Building Competition were officially opened by the Vice Mayor of Pontianak and attended by Rector of Universitas Tanjungpura and Directors of Indonesian Polytechnics. The event was conducted at Mercure Hotel Pontianak on Thursday (4/11) 2021.
